There was one year my parents couldn't afford to do any presents. My dad worked at this sign shop at the time...they'd make signs and do silk screening on shirts and such. With some left over material, he made an "M" for my first name to hang up in my room. It cost him nothing and it wound up being a really neat room decoration. Most people would not have thought it to be the "wow" factor, but it really meant a lot to me since he took the time to make it...and he did his best for me. It wound up being one of my favorite gifts ever because it showed me that being able to afford something means absolutely nothing. You can still touch a heart without spending a dime.

Aww memories, a small dancing elephant that sings happy birthday, probably purchased from a near by Rite Aid, wrapped in an uncivilized manner, with tons and tons of duct tape, the unwrapping part was fun.

I have told this story before, but one year, we were having a tough time financially. I took my husband and two stepsons to the dollar store and we invented a game, We all got to get one item each for each person, but no one could see what you were getting till we got home. It made it special and fun. Anyway.....I had always wanted to go on a sleigh ride, and knowing we couldn't, my husband found one of those resin figurines that go along with the lighted villages. It was a horse drawn sleigh with a family in it. I loved it!!! It meant allot to me and I put it out every year.

The Easter basket my sister-in-law's sister gave me this year. It was full of sugar free candy and gum and it had one of those big word puzzle books in it. It was great. But the collage my niece made me of pictures of the two of us together was a real tear jerker!

My husband had my 6 year old son make me a Christmas card. He was just learning to write and it made it the most wonderful thing in the world to me.

I have received very beautiful bookmarks that I treasure. I love to read and appreciate these. I have never looked for expense with gifts. I am so grateful that someone thought enough about me to present me with a gift. I have never exchanged, returned or re-gifted.
