The people who know ur daughter best(in her level) are her friends. If u think her friends can keep a secret ,then you can ask them.Ur daughter may have told them what she likes....

If u can't do that,go and buy her a really good dress(in sync with her latest fashion)or a pair of shoes.

Since I don't know you're daughter, it's a little tough to figure out what she might want.
I'll give it shot though since I have a very mature 10 year old niece.
The one thing she really likes is a special day all about her.
We start with a special breakfast at home, whatever she wants.
From there we go shopping for a new outfit.
We'll stop at a nail salon so that she could get a manicure and pedicure. Then it's off to lunch out, any where she wants.
A stop at the local video store to rent movies she likes and before you know it, it's time to plan dinner and you got it, it's her choice.
Movie time and a slumber party by sleeping in the living room together while watching the movie she picked out.
She like being the princess for the day.
Since you're daughter is a little older, it might be nice if she brings a friend along.

Give her a mini spa day. Take her to one of the local nail shops and get her a manicure (no fake nails), pedicure, and let her get her eyebrows shaped.

I recently took my daughter to have this done, and she thought she was grown. She smiled the whole time, and showed off her face and nails for several days.

A mother/daughter shopping trip in her honor is a good idea. Ask her to invite someone along and then take them out for dinner/lunch. Or you could take her to go get a mani/pedi?

Do a charm bracelet. They are coming back strong - and they are so cool, because you can keep adding to them.

You can pick out all sorts of sterling silver charms that would be meaningful to you and your daughter.

Definitely have one charm engraved with her name, date of birth and something special from you.

Give her a book of coupons for things like a girls night out with you, a pizza at a time of her choice, things like that. My 14 year old niece loves it because she gets to pick activities and gets time with her favorite feed

What about jewelry? A ring and necklace, or a bracelet, gold with gems, not diamonds. Something colourful, but not necessarily her birthstone. Does she like purple (amethyst) or red (garnet)? See if you can't tell if she prefers white or yellow gold. Rose gold looks pretty exotic with amethyst.

First of all, I think that giving money lacks originality and is not nearly as appreciated as a personal gift, something special that you chose just for her.

Since I don't know your daughter, her personality, her likes and dislikes...it's a little difficult to come up with ideas, but here are some suggestions, that might be right for her or inspire you:

A SENTIMENTAL gift in celebration of your mother-daughter relationship would be this 'Musical Angel Figurine'. It plays the beloved tune of "Always in My Heart" and the angels' skirts are inscribed with the heartfelt expression "Always My Daughter, Now Too, My Friend"

A SPIRITUAL gift would be this beautiful pearl rosary, presented in a personalized case:
