Oh, I don't know - why would it be hard for me to run around advertising the fact that I'm heterosexual? I mean it would be kind of weird to do either way wouldn't it? Most people don't want to make a big deal out of their sexual orientation unless they are an activist. It's a choice people make like getting up and picking a pair of pants. What's the big deal? I mean you can go straight down the road or veer off and hit a tree and pay the consequences - your choice. People are afraid of what others will think - but they shouldn't be - on the other hand they shouldn't advertise it to everyone they know - I mean heterosexuals and bi's don't do that. They don't want to offend anymore than people don't want to offend by using the words Merry Christmas these days! If a friend of mine told me - I would not cease to be their friend - if they were a girl and gay and had feelings for me - then I wouldn't be their friend -that would be the same as heterosexual adultery. On the other hand, I wouldn't want them to try to push me into thinking that it is not a choice - but genetic or that it has nothing to do with a moral value choice. We'd have to agree to disagree. I don't have any trouble doing that. Alot of activist homosexuals do have a problem with this. They think everyone must think feel and believe the same way they do and that's just not realistic anymore than I can force them out of their lifestyle.

I believe it is because gay guys are so tired of being made fun of and teased. They are afraid of what there parents and everyone else they love will say. They dont do it because by not saying it they feel protected against something they cant foresee. It is something hard to do but I believe after you do it you feel great and a huge load has been lifted off your shoulders. It was one of the hardest things for me to do but I did it and my parents didnt like it at first but they have come to accept it. I mean I was more open at school and everything and I was treated with respect because we are people and we have feelings as well. There are haters in this world and no matter if your straight or gay you will have problems no matter what so you might as well live the way you want to the fullest it is your life no one elses.

Because they peek out of the closet and see how little people think of us... we can't do just about anything in public without getting scolded or dirty looks for it. It makes the closeted ones want to lock the door and never come out. How sad that, in 2006, people are still forced to hide themselves.

Personally, I didn't find it difficult. I knew that was who I was and didn't particularly care who didn't accept me for it. I never worried about not being able to give my parents grandchildren as coming out of the closet did not render me infertile.

Because society makes it so. Move to Atlanta. They are very accepted here (or so I think). I can even suggest a place to work in the area. I've always worked with gays, and it seems to amaze my co-workers that I chat with these guys about their sexuality. They would rather pretend that the guy is not gay, whereas I feel comfortable chatting with them.

Because they know know once they come out, they won't be welcome with warm hands and support.
Only discrimation will be throw at them and that eventually will force them to go back into the closet

Mostly to avoid listening to the kind of crap that gets spewed on places like this. Not being gay, I can only guess.. but there is also the chance that maybe not everyone thinks its the worlds business who they want to sleep with.

The main reason is the uncertainty on who will accept them or not. Living life alone sucks

Because of Bigotry and Intolerance, similar to the reason other minority groups have hidden and maintained a lower profile in order to avoid discrimination(when possible).

you must be kidding. My friend at work still has to call her partner "friend" around co-workes even though they know she's gay. Most people are still bigots about the subject and as long as that exists, it will always be hard.
