i think some conservatives are social darwinists b/c their policies of agressive laissez-faire economics promote a corrupted version of darwin's idea that the fittest members of a species survice. conservatives interpret "fitness" to mean "ability to acquire and hoard as many scarce resources as possible and to promote oneself above all else," while darwin meant, "reproductive success." i'm pretty conservative economically, but i'm not at all a social darwinist. about part 2 of your Q: ummm i have no idea. rock on.
