.44 automatic $425
Box of bullets $7
Pulling the trigger on some dirt bag, child molesting,SOB...
PRICELESS!
I don't know why it costs so much personally. The chair is already there. They don't have to build a new one.
You can buy a box of syringes at Wal Mart for $20.
I believe in capital punishment, but I don't think people should be on death row for years upon end. Give them 1 year to prove they are innocent. Then get rid of them. All these ACLU types saying the electric chair is too painful..who cares about what pain these idiots are feeling? What about the pain of that little girl who was buried alive in Florida after that scum bag raped her time and again? What about the pain of that college kid that was raped and had her head wrapped in plastic? And dirty needles??!! The guy's gonna be dead anyway, who cares if the dead convict ahead of him had a disease?
Some of you may say a year isn't long enough. Fine then, if it looks like, after a year, that there is now a 45% chance the guy is innocent, then give him another year.
Convicts have it made in the US. Anywhere else and they'd be dead already. Over here, they get TV, 3 square meals, AC...they live better than the homeless.....Kill the convicts and use that money to help those less fortunate that want to prosper. Stop spending it on worthless bags of crap that just want to take advantage of everyone.

It costs so much in this country because a) there is an automatic appeal to the state's highest court, b) generally a habeas corpus proceeding in federal court to test the constitutional sufficiency of the first state trial, c) an appeal of the habeas corpus proceeding, d) a filing of a petition for a writ of certiorari with the US Supreme Court. All that takes minimum 6-7 years, hundreds of lawyer hours on both sides, with the state picking up the tab. Then come the collateral attacks, the method of execution violates the 8th amendment, the condemned man is now legally insane, new witnesses have come forward, etc. giving rise to new filings and new appeals when the initial filing is rejected. Add two more years and more lawyer hours all paid for by the state. All that assumes that the defendant lost at every juncture. If there is an evidentiary or constitutional error along the way, start from square one. Some states have the process more streamlined than others. But that is the general formula. It is cumbersome, but it is better than say China, where the judge pronounces the sentence and the bailiff pulls out his 9.

why does it cost so much, i know there is a lot of paperwork involved, but where the heck is this money going to? I still believe they should keep the death penalty. if a person brutally kills another and his punishment was to sit in a cell for the rest of his life, thats not fair, especially to the person who died. And I have seen some of those long term cells and they dont look too intimidating, they look mighty comfy for someone who has killed another. Ya the person might be sorry 10 years later when its time to take the injections, but it wont bring back the person they killed. when its time for them, then they might have a tiny feeling of what the victim was going through when they were taking their last breath. People know what could happen when they plan on murdering somebody, like Timothy McVay, he killed all those innocent people for some reason i dont even know, tell me, do you think he deserved to live rather than having the death penalty? do you think he thought if the people inside the hospital deserved to live? (im not attacking you or your question just in case if you think im being a little hostile, just stating an opinion)

The cost efficiency of capital punishment is astounding because so many wait to die for the purpose of appeals, new evidence, and last but not least...FORGIVENESS. It is my opinion, and this is only an opinion...that if someone is to be put to death, and the crime they commited warrants such a punishment...the evidence against them should be concrete, and it should be swift to take place. If there is a shred of doubt..then it's worth the money to house them. But prisons are correctional institutions. To correct a problem, you must first identify it. To solve overcrowding in prisons...Politicians say build another one. I say concentrate more on rehabilitating those who accept it. Capital punishment? Yay and Nay.

No, capital punishment should be stop because it is about as useful as trying to stop a lemming from jumping into a cliff. For those far too ignorant, capital punishment does not work. Find me a country that has a change in their crime rates (long term) because of capital punishment, and I'll support it. But so far the news is sour for capital punishment supporters. I especially enjoy those who once supported capital punishment, but then turns after either someone they know are sentenced to death, or witnesses the actual sentence being carried out.

Well, considering this country does not execute too many prisoners, the ones that they do deserve it and should have been right away so the tax payers didn't have to pay for that prisoner to live an extra 10 to 20 years before being put to death anyway. There are a lot more prisoners with life in prison than there are on death row and capitol punishment should not be stopped, it should be accelerated so the cost is minimal to the tax payers, we are paying for him to die, why should we also pay for him to live when he's going to die anyway?

there are a number of motives to oppose capital punishment, value being only considered one of them. motives that I oppose the dying penalty: a million) Executions value extra suitable than existence in penal complex. $2 million according to guy or woman vs. $500,000 (4x as lots!) 2) The harmless could be wrongly accomplished. because of the fact the DP replaced into reinstated in 1976, 80 two inmates have been free of dying Row. this is a million dying Row inmate got here across to be wrongfully convicted for each 7 accomplished. 3) it somewhat is no longer a deterrent; crime costs have not long gone down. the homicide value interior the U. S. is 6 situations that of england and 5 situations that of Australia. Neither usa has the DP. Texas has two times the homicide value of Wisconsin, a state that doesn't have the DP. 4) existence in penal complex additionally ensures no destiny crimes. 5) Many dying Row inmates have been convicted mutually as being defended via courtroom-appointed attorneys who're often the worst-paid and maximum-green and least-skillful attorneys. 6) Violates worldwide human rights rules. 7) dying sentences are handed down arbitrarily, no longer in a user-friendly way. 8) The years long, dragged out computerized appeals technique prevents the victims family individuals from getting closure. existence w/o parole might rapidly decrease their agony.

No Capital punishment shouldn't be stopped cause of the cost. What should be stopped is the endless number of appeals the people convicted of capital crimes can file. If there was a limit on the number of appeals the cost of capital punishment would be less.

Capital punsihment should not be abolished. It is a deterrent force. A life which is contaminated by henious criminal act and cannot be rehabilitated should be extinguished. Perhaps it is god's will to set his soul free.
