there are no names - just like there originally was hardly a story. RPGs didn't always have storylines - zelda, though it's not a true rpg, and is more an action/rpg, the first game hardly had a story (in the game) but if you watched the few cartoons and read the books, that's how you found out the story to zelda

with the first final fantasy, you were just four people (you picked from six classes, whatever you wanted, however many of each class you wanted) and went into corneria. the king asks you to save princess sara... then you just move on to the next destination til you beat the game.

the first final fantasy didn't have any character names for the characters that you played. there were several names of characters that were not main characters. arylon the dancer lived in corneria. sara was corneria's princess. matoya was a witch. bahamut was the king of dragons. i think that's it for names.
