I want to know if it smells like a cirtrus and ammonia smell, or if there is a smoke that you can make using ammonia?

there several different thing you can use to smoke bees. when i had bees i used dry pind needles to smoke them. i have used rags rolled up in the smoker but you better not use too muck or it will make the honey taste like burnt rags smell. you can also use card board rolled up and put it in the smoker. best thing is to get some good clothes and a vail and have guts and go get it don't worry about the bees they will calm down if you don't get too rough with the hive

Try burning burlap in a can. All you need is smoke. You want the bees to think they are threatened. They gorge on honey and that makes them lazy - simply put. You then have an opportunity to move them.

a coulpe of cubes of matchlite charcoal , lite and get to glowing, then pack the smoker with green hickory. mine is attached to a pressurized tank so i don't have to pump, just turn the valve and point it toward the hive, bees leave, i harvest...you still want to wear the suit, just in case
