For women, it was nice dresses with pill-box style hats or hats that had a 1/2 face veil.
For men it was suits (little changed there) or caps and shorter styled pants.

But if the time setting is 1932-33 (the height of Stalin terror when Ukrainians were brutally repressed and even murdered) would Ukrainians have been allowed to wear the traditional clothing? After all, they weren't allow to speak or write in Ukrainian and anything that hinted at Ukrainian identity was forbidden.
