The correct answer is supposed to be 4 and -4.

Let the greater number be x. Then the other number is x-8. Thus, we must find the minimum value of x(x-8). This is x²-8x, so the derivative of this is 2x-8. Setting this to zero, we get 2x-8=0, or x=4. Then the other number is -4, and their product is -16
