screensavers are basically required to keep some activity on your computer's monitor when you are not active on the same, thereby preventing your screen from the burnt-in syndrome.. they can also be set with password protection, so if anyone tries to activate the computer while the screensaver is on, would require to type that password to access your pc.

I'd not recommend that you remove the screensavers that have been installed by default along with windows.. but as far as the other screensavers that you might have installed manually.. you can remove them like you remove any other programme...

my computer>control panel>add remove programmes> search for the screensaver name.

If you want to deactivate a active screensaver, just right click on your desktop, select properties, then screensaver and using the scroll-bars go to the top of the list.. select then apply and `ok

If you want to add a screensaver that you have downloaded from the net, these are basically available as executives.. you just need to run them for the screensaver to install itself.

Hope this helps
