My sis and I took her bunny to the vet last week to be neutered. He was given a shot for pain that was to last 24 hours. He obviously is still in pain and the vet said that there was nothing they can do. I know there are anelgesics for rabbits but most vets fail to do this. I was wondering if there was anything on our end that we can do to help this little guy. We tried heat but he does not stay put and whoa, if you put ice on him look out. I was told we could give him 1/2 a baby aspirin or use some antibiotic ointment with some numbing stuff. I just wanted to hear what you had to say on the matter. I'll be lookin forward to your responses.

She took the bunny to an emergency vet this morning, they said that this vet botched whatever they did. The area is turning black and is very swollen. She now has to syringe feed him and inject him with fluids every 10 hours. We were told to take the bunny back to the vet and tell them to fix what they messed up. If we go to another vet then we have to pay more money that we do not have.

Well our little guy ended up passing away this morning. We were told by the emergency vet that he should have had antibiotics and pain meds. We are now in search of an attorney to sue the vet.

You can find a list of rabbit savvy vets on this websites. http://www.rabbit.org Do not bring it back to the vet that screwed up. You're vet should have been able to give the rabbit metacam for pain. It is a liquid you can feed to the rabbit. If there is not a vet on this list for you. Call you local rabbit shelter and ask who they use.

After a week, most of the pain should be gone. Was the vet you used experienced with treating rabbits? They are not a specialty, but require different drugs and stuff than dogs or cats. The neutering and spaying procedure is a bit different too. Even to the antibiotics after the procedure...rabbits can't have penicillin.

I know it is the weekend, and since your bunny doesn't seem to be in great distress (if he were in great pain,he would be doing the bunny scream), why not wait until Monday and call around to different vets in your area and ask about their experience with rabbits. Try to find one who has a lot of bunny patients and just have him double check to be sure everything is in proper order.

Oh, and a bunny scream is a loud piercing shriek that you can't miss. I've heard tiny wild bunnies shriek loud enough to make your ears hurt.

The rabbit will probably be fine, just give it time and give the rabbit some space. Also, if the area of the incision is red or swollen, call your vet right away because he may want to see the rabbit. Dont use heat or ice, rabbits do not need that, they are quite self sufficient.

hmmmm something is wrong, a bunny is fine the next day after being fixed, especially a male, take him to another vet and get there opinion, I know its more money to fork out, but have never heard of any animal still being in pain a week after being fixed.

there is no way a pet should be in pain that long after neutering if it was done correctly.. call another vet and explain the situation and how exactly do you know its in pain??animals often try to hide their pain so they dont appear weak...

good luck - we have bunnies too

that is a lot of stress on a little guy and he is probably confuzed and scared so dont worry to much. just let him be and if something major goes wrong contact your vet.
