I hear that when people get to O.C., they switch majors because they can't deal with it and that it's too hard. Is this true?

Give me some details as to why or why not?

I always thought it was rather easy. Once you get the naming down, which is probably the most overwhelming part...it's like learning a new language, then it flows rather well. There's a system, so it's not all random nonsense.

I Hate Organic Chemistry

The only thing that is hard about organic chemistry is that it has so many aspects and there are so many things to do, find out and maybe discover. So it might get a little complicated. so if you're planning in choosing this major, you must like it and you must like it for its own sake (not for making money or any thing else) but in my opinion it's not all that bad (Physical chemistry is much worse with all those math in it) so it's really a mater that you have to find out your self

I hated organic chemistry, but only because I hate having to memorize things.
I work much better when I can learn the basics and spend all my time applying what I know. Memorizing all the naming, the reagants used in processes (it felt like there was a million. Stupid Grignard) and all the reactions and how they work (SN1 SN2 E1..blah blah blah blah blah....) drove me apesh*t.
It felt like all I was doing was rote memorization, and none of it made any sense in the grand scheme of things, but that's just me. I like inorganic chem, and it's my experience that the two don't mix well.
Most people who like organic hate inorganic and vice versa. I suppose it's all due to how you work best.....and whether it grabs your attention from the start. If you're interested in the idea of synthesis in chemistry, organic will probably appeal to you.

I haven't taken it, but I go to Loyola University and I hear it's hard as hell even for the smartest students. Cells and Heredity is what I'm taking now and it's tough enough. I'm going crazy with all the studying I have to do. I was doing so bad that I had to drop one of my classes. I'm so pissed :(

Compared to general chemistry? Your joking, right?

Once you understand structure of molecules and reaction mechanism it becomes easier.though i agree there is lot to mug.organic chemistry is a very interesting subject if learnt by heart and if understood properly.

Well from what I know Organic Chemistry is based on compound or items that contain carbon. So it becomes more specific and they don't like that.

Not really. I found it pretty easy. The tough stuff is physical chemistry and biochemistry.
