It's a double edged sword - especially for those who side with what they perceive as a majority, but who identify strongly with a minority.............

I on the other hand feel the dichotomy far less.

Requires more thought...

I don't have an easy answer to this question, because I think an agreement about who is who is required.

In specific contexts, such as when private property may be taken for the public "good," my anwer is no.

If you are referring to culture clash, I'd like to continue with my usual "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil," because I do not consider myself qualified to judge.

Well, you should define "majority" and "minority". Among white people, for instance, there's a poor majority and a rich minority. If you mean only by USA-borns vs. immigrants, perhaps you should remember the History of this country and realize it was founded over the shoulders of these immigrants.

Since there is no such entity as "the public," since the public is merely a number of individuals, the idea that "the public interest" supersedes private interests and rights can have but one meaning: that the interests and rights of some individuals take precedence over the interests and rights of others.

Why would the majority need protection anyway? Can they not stand the others point of view or are we talking violence here? Because everybody needs protection against violence.
