I have loved Johnny Cash throughout my life. He was a true down-to-earth man who stood up for his principles. Do you all feel, like I do, that "Walk the Line" misrepresented him by following the formula of drug addict redeemed by love?

I grew up with the man in black myself. I did not come to the consensus that the underlying theme was an addict redeemed by love. I think he was probably redeemed by his beliefs, love and time. Perhaps he was lucky to have had the time to live long enough to put his life into perspective. I feel the movie was great but not deserving of any Academy Award. The movie had a made for t.v. feel to it to me. I did enjoy it though. I often like to just enjoy an artist's music without trying to figure out their life especially when interpreted by the hokey folks in Hollywood.

I have seen "Walk the Line a dozen times and I can't get enough of it. I think that it truly Portrayed Johnny Cash about everything of his life. I have seen other movies about Country Singers like Loretta Lynn, The Judds, Hank Williams Jr, Patsy Cline, and they all their movies portrayed them on how they was before they become Country Singers and how they got into the Music Business. It is so hard to make up stuff about real people in the movies I watch true stories all the time.

No Hollywood movie can ever truly portray a historical figure, but all things considered, I think they did a pretty good job.

trite as it may sound, he was redeemed..they actually didn't play it up enough. She was a hardassed ***** who set her boundaries and he loved her, as she did him. Formulaic, however, cliches are based in truth

i can't say i knew him personally, so it's hard for me to say how accurate the movie was. when the movie first came out, though, i think i remember seeing news stories claiming that his family members thought it was pretty accurate.

Of course no one is perfect but this movie made him look like a total jerk. It was really a downer.
