The college will have an entrance exam that will tell them if he has the skills necessary to attend their classes. They can in turn offer him remedial classes to get him up to skill level for college. If he really wants to go to college he needs to contact the students with disabilities department for help. And yes he can go to college....my daughter does not read over a 4th grade level due to brain damaged and has gone to Technical College.

Well, to me, just wanting to go to college indicates he is smart. It's not much of a life without it. There are lots of college degrees for people who are smart in other ways. It's important that your friend does something that really interests him or excites him, because it's going to be something he'll be spending a lot of time on. It's only if you have a passion for something that you will be truly successful.

If you really want to go to college you can find one that will take you. I knew someone who first went to a junior college because they didn't have the credentials to get into a "real" college. That person did well and later applied to a university and was accepted.

Talk to a career councilor at the college you want to attend. They can get you started.

Yes you can. If you want to go to Harvard or Yale or Penn state, you have to have a higher grade point average. It all depends which college you are shooting for. Grade point average will decide. Thanks for the additional details. He would probably be best off tyring a hands on technical college. Whatever he is good at? He should focus on those areas.

Well, if he isn't that book smart he could try a liberal arts college or art institute. It all depends on what career he wants and what his hobbies are. Almost anyone can get into college, it just may varey by what career he wants.

start out at a community college...they have all kinds of services available...he may have a learning disability. they have classes for the learning diabled, ppl who will help him with study skills, tutors, ppl who take notes for the student, etc. i used to work with a group of 8 learning disabled adults at comm. college...every one of them got a general ed degree...it might take some a year or two longer, but it's worth it. your friend might have dyslexia and not know it...he can be tested to find out what his best way to learn is; visual, listening, etc. also, he can go part time and work up to full-time, or whatever. good luck with this. you are a good friend!!
