As a preschool teacher I can tell you that markers are easier for children to hold and write with. The markers move smoothly across the paper, making it easier for beginning drawers and writers to control their movements.
But I have fond memories of crayons! I LOVED the 64 pack. The way it smelled, the newness of the sharpened crayons, everything.
So I guess it's a personal preference. If you can afford it... I'd advise getting both.

Most definately crayons. Markers don't come in very many colors. There's tons of colors with crayons.

Crayons are better in my opinion.... they come in more colours than you ever thought existed.... and marker pens tend to bleed through the paper, and you gotta admit that doesn't look too good.

markers are cool because they're bolder and brighter, but crayons are nice because you can blend and you have more of a choice of colors.
so I pick... colored pencils lol

It depends on what you need them for. Overall, I prefer Crayons.
