How the heck should we know?

So all of a sudden yahoo answers has developed oracle status?

There are many inferences in this question the biggest being that your mate doesn't trust his g/f.

The next one is that said g/f is using the pregnancy as some sort of leverage.

If either of those inferences is true this is a very poor basis for a relationship, because it indicates a lack of trust, whether founded or unfounded.

The lady who suggested asking for the pregnancy test as a keepsake and going to the Dr to be supportive is very much on the right track.

Another thing to think of is minding your own business as this could well be a lose:lose situation for you if you don't. You are liable to get in the bad books of both your mate and his g/f if you don't back off to a safe distance and let them sort this out.

Something like this is intensely personal and not a situation where outsiders should interfere.

This happened to my BF's brother. A girl he'd been sleeping with told him she was pregnant (after they'd split up) which understandably freaked him out (he was 19 at the time).

This went on for a couple of months and when she coulnd't extend the lie anymore (because it was obvious to everyone she was lying - she was still going out and drinking all the time and had no pregnancy symptoms at all) she claimed that she had lost the baby.

I and everyone else knew that the whole thing had been a lie and tried to explain this to BF's brother but he was really broken up about it. He didn't love this girl but he really thought he was going to be a dad. What she did was cruel.

I also know another girl who told a guy she was pregnant as "revenge" because he bragged about sleeping with her to his mates. That was also very nasty. Again, he was wiling to stand by her and really thought he was going to be a dad and was gutted when she told him she'd lied about it.

My BF's mate's GF claimed she was pregnant to get him back after he dumped her. He was too sensible to fall for it though.

All I can say is its difficult to say, obvious confronting her is an option, but if she were pregnant she will invariably start to have some symptoms - morning sickness, sore boobs etc, and will have to go to the doctor and get her pregnancy confirmed. If she does none of this then she obviously ain't pregnant! Time will tell as well. She can only keep up the lie for so long - if it is a lie.

Actually most of these replies are wrong. We don't need to be psychic, and we don't need doctor's notes or pregnancy testing kits to be able to tell if your girlf - sorry, "your mate's" girlfriend is pregnant. What you do is wait for a few months. Depending upon how advanced your girlfr - sorry, "your mate's" girlfriend's pregnancy is, you'll have to wait up to nine months.

At the end of that time, she will either have a baby or she won't. This will answer your question with absolutely 100% accuracy.

omg are you serious, how are we supposed to answer this question!!! We have no idea of the circumstances, scenario, symptoms, etc. Why doesnt your mate take his gf to the doctor and find out! How far does she say she is pregnant (days, weeks, months)???
I guess you are pretty close to your mate, but if he is concerned and unsure, get a test done, its the only way really, unless he waits nine months until his gf goes until labour.

If she says she is and has the symptoms then it is quite possible she is. Are there any reasons why she would lie about it? The best way to find out is for your mate to go to the doctor with her.

well she should have proof at the end of the day and if she is lying then she must have some issues of her own that need seeing to. it might be a way of making the boy friend stay around. tell your mate to go to the doctors with her and see what the reaction is thats the only way you can tell

To do this without hurting her feelings(if she really is pregnant) here are two suggestions
1. Tell him, to ask her to get a home pregnancy test for them to keep and put in the baby book or keepsake box.
2. Tell him, to tell her that he wants to be there for her and support her in everyway, and he would love to go to the doctor with her.

This way there is no way she could decieve him. I wish your friend Good Luck. I hope this works and he gets the answer he wants.

is the relationship going through a bit of a rocky patch. it's a tried and tested ploy to get the guy hanging on for a bit like "oh I'm pregnant you can't leave me now"
Get the picture

unfortunately not psychic so couldn't tell you, its a bit worrying that your friend wouldn't believe her I'm guessing they have been having some issues. the only way to know is to see proof like go to a scan or see she is getting a bump, however if she is pregnant and she finds out he didn't believe her it would probably be the end of that relationship

If hes not really sure but he could confront her about this and ask for a doctors note to verify the pregnancy
i find it bad taste for girls to lie about being pregnant but some do to trap their boyfriends and to get them to commit
