Right up my alley!
I enjoy both Queen and the Who. There are some classic rock bands you can tune in to that sound completely different form most others and then there are the more modern bands that have drawn their styles form those classic bands. Overall, I'd say go towards "Progressive Rock" to really hear a unique style lacking in most bands.
Yes - is an incredible bunch of musicians. Try listening to "Round About" and "Seen all good people" and you'll hear the immediate difference.
Jethro Tull - is also a unique classic rock band with its roots in folk, blues and classical. "Aqualung" is the hit everyone knows but some other good ones such as "Thick as a Brick" and "Songs from the Wood" are much more unique.
Styx - "Come Sail Away" is always the song people identify this band with. Most of their hit songs are enjoyable but I find myself blasting "Mr Roboto" the most.
And now... for the best all around "classic" band that still records and tours to this very day... RUSH. If you only listen to one band in your entire life, THIS is the one to listen to. There's never a single flaw to their musicianship, they're only 3 members strong but have an incredible complexity and range of styles. And they've been around since 1974, selling Gold and/or Platinum albums with each release up to their latest in 2004.
Their 70's songs lean towards epic length (20 minutes), science fiction based themes. Their 80's style toned down a bit and introduced more electronic sounds (keyboards). Their 90's style removed keyboards and leaned towards a more raw guitar driven sound. Their current works follow the in the same footsteps.
For a sampling of styles, listen to "2112" (1976) and "A farewell to Kings" (1977), "Spirit of Radio" (1980), "Red Sector A" (1984), "Dreamline" (1991), "Driven" (1996) and either "Ghost Rider" or "One Little Victory" (2002).
If you want to vary it a bit and go for harder styles, you can try Queensryche, Dream Theater (or my personal favorite in this area) Symphony X. They all get their styles form classic bands but have a heavier sound.
With the Holidays here already, you can also give the Trans Siberian Orchestra a listen. Think of it as Hard Rock meets Classical meets Broadway performing a variety of strangely unique Christmas tunes.

Snow Patrol, Neverending White Lights, OneRepublic, This Day and Age, Aqualung, As Tall As Lions, Mae, Waking Ashland, The Sound of Animals Fighting, Circa Survive, Brightwood, Dredg, Imogen Heap, Jimmy Eat World, Terminal, and Thirteen Senses are bands that i really like. I think the sound unique and different, but not everyone likes this music.

I'm one of the most metal guys I know, and I like the same artists as you. If you like dragonforce try Dream Theater(get pull me under, all of octavarium) Sonata Arctica(THe end of this chapter) Shadow Warriors( Dragonforce sideproject) Power Quest( DF sideproject) and Demoniac(Df sideproject). Also try Dio, Deep purple, Wintersun, Dimmu Borgir, Conquest, 3 Inches of Blood, Black Label Society, The Offspring, Pink Floyd, Cream, and others. Hope this helps.

Try the Pixies, from the late 80's. They're kind of like The Who, not sound wise but neither are too serious and they still know how to rock. I always wondered why they weren't bigger than they were.
