I do, but it is hard to find in politics. I do look for Christians, but just because they say they are Christians, it doesn't necessarily mean they are. So I try to see if they ACT like Christians. It is one thing to talk the talk, but they also have to walk the walk, publicly and privately.

Yes, I look and look but I never see any high moral standards when voting.
JK. Moral standards are important. Being Christian doesn't guarantee a person will act morally so I don't think it is a plus. There is a Muslim running for Federal Office here in Minnesota and I wouldn't vote against him just because his opponent is Christian.
As a Christian, I believe you should attend the log in your own eye rather than denounce the sliver in your neighbor's eye. That teaching doesn't last long on the campaign trail of any politician that I can think of.
I mainly look at their statements on the issues. I usually take points off for catch phrases that don't mean anything like: "tax and spend democrat" or "culture of corruption".

I do not think the fact of a person being a Christian would be important. We have all seen on more than 1 occasion where a "Christian" has been caught doing something illegal. Mostly child sex offenses. On the other hand, the moral standards may not be a plausible way to determine, simply because we just cannot trust the Government or head officials anymore.

Being a Christian doesn't make one automatically of "high moral standards". So no, that doesn't matter to me.
What does matter? Where they stand on the issues I find important, and how honest they have proven themselves in the past. I also like it when they stand up for what they believe, and don't sell out to special interest groups. I don't want a bought person representing me - I want someone that will listen to the voters and vote in the best interest of the voters.

Generally, I tend to look for a candidate with high moral standards, but it depends on the person and the issues, too. Whether or not s/he was a Christian wouldn't matter to me, so long as the candidate was not an atheist. In fact, if the candidate went on and on about the evangelicals, I would tend to vote for the other guy. I tend not to trust them; they seem like hypocrites to me, but, again, it depends on the person.

Most people don't or Bill Clinton would not have become president. So the way I see it if you are a Democrat than high morals do not count but if you are a Republican they do. Just because you are a Christian doesn't mean you have high moral standards. Look at Ted Kennedy, he is a christian. You may want to rephrase your question.

When I was a voter (I'm not any more):
1. No. I voted for candidates who shared my vision of what government ought to be doing and ought not to be doing. I wouldn't know how to calibrate the moral standards of the person I was voting for.
2. No. I obey the Constitution, which says that no religious test shall be required as a qualification for public office.

So you can't have 'high moral standards' unless you're a Christian?? Please. (and I've known many 'Christians' with questionable moral standards but that's another story)
Of course 'moral standards' are important when choosing who to vote for. I hope people vote based on the candidate's individual merits rather than their religion, or political party.

proverb shmoverb evidently you haven't heard that religion doesn't mean a person has a high moral standing and if that's what someone looks for in a politician, then good luck.
I'll vote for the person that will not screw us even more than the ones in office now have.
