I'm not sure what it is that is to be compared, but here are some things to consider:

Belt drives are very flexible as to drive ratios, since it is easier to make a pulley to any diameter, while gears are available in only a fixed number of pitches and diameters.

Belt drives are more limited in maximum torque, since they depend on the friction between belt and pulley, while gears transimit force directly.

One of the main advantages of belt drives is the flexibility allowed as to the distance between the driver and driven shafts. The distance between gears is set by the pitch diameter and does not allow for much variance. Belt drive shafts can be far apart and allow for more variation in separation.

Belt drives are less expensive for large scale systems. Large pulleys and long belts are cheaper than large gears.

Belt drives are not practical for very small scale (less than 1-2inch) systems or for shafts that need to be very close together.

I don't know about gears but belt drives have power which is transmitted by a continuous flexible belt
