Real sweat bees are in the family Halictidae, but most I've seen are small and green.

Something similar, which I call hover flies, are in the family Syrphidae. Here's a picture. If this isn't it, surfing this website may turn up what you're thinking about.

I always thought that those little popcorn-seed sized and smaller bees (the really pesky, but not so painful), were called "sweat bees". That's what my family calls them anyways. The huge, sometimes furry looking bees are bumble-bees. Are you sure you're not thinking of a yellow jacket, or a hornet?

I don't know of any "huge sweat bees". I know of yellow jackets and honey bees.
