Yes I believe it should be legalized, because in relation to other drugs that are currently legal, the deleterious effects of marijuana simply don’t compare. I think the distribution of it should be controlled as to where it can be smoked, and who is licensed to sell it.

One of the largest reasons that it's illegal has it's roots in racism. Marijuana was originally smoked in the country by Hispanics and Blacks back when the country was extremely racist.

Read Reefer Madness : A History of Marijuana by Larry Sloman

It shows in depth the governments stance on marijuana going from "It's not a bad drug at all" directly into claims that it makes people insane and kill their family with an axe.
There are police reports about white women hanging out with black musicians and getting pregnant because of it.

I've been to Amsterdam a few times as I live in Germany, the coffee shops are not even close to as packed as a typical bar, in fact, most of the people hanging out in the coffee shops aren't even from there. They're mostly American and British.

Most of the people that are against legalization are citing government funded studies. Have you ever stopped to think why you don't see many studies making these claims that are non-objective studies? Probably because the claims are a bit twisted. We've all seen that our government doesn't exactly present the truth all the time.

I think that it's just a matter of time until all the dinosaurs die off with their brainwashed beliefs, the younger generation coming into voting age right now will probably end up legalizing it.

My big problem with the people that are a staunch opposer to legalization is that most of them have never tried it, have never been to Amsterdam to see what it's like in a legalized environment, and are just repeating what they've been told their whole life.

The D.A.R.E. program exacerbates the abuse of actually dangerous drugs by lying about marijuana as well. When a kid tries marijuana and figures out that it isn't bad like they've been lied to their entire life about it they're going to assume they've been lied to about coke, or meth, or heroin. And the gateway drug theory is flawed. People naturally try whatever they can get their hands on easiest, the underground drug culture lends itself to this environment because the rings are connected. If marijuana was legal, people would not easily meet the people that were selling the harsh drugs and most would likely never try them.

Most people will not grow their own marijuana once it is legalized because you won't be able to compete with the high quality strains that botanists can create and it is just easier to buy.

Yes due to the following reasons:

1. It is very cheap.

2. It is a herb and not synthetic.

3. Can be grown easily.

4. Smoking of it does not
make one person violent.

5. Instinct to do a crime
is lessor in a marijuana
addict.

6. It makes you hungry for
good protien food.

7. You get inner peace and
remain calm.

8 One gets good sleep.

9. The Government will
earn tremendous revenue,
if it is legalised.

10. It will fetch more revenue
than the sale of liquer/wine.

11. People, who are addicted
to other synthetic drugs like
heroine, smack, brown sugar
cocaine, LSD etc. will shift to
marijuana, which may not be
a bad idea for the society.

12. It has hardly any bad effects,
as compared to other drugs and
alcohol.

13. Alcohol kills ( due to cirosis,
lever failure, heart failure, jaundice)
almost 35% POPULATION, but
marijuanan will reduce the death
% age.

It is high time, that it is legalised.

Yes. It could then be taxed and regulated. The tax money could be used for honest drug education programs in the schools, and to help those who are addicted to drugs and want to quit. We could then regulate the drug to make sure it is what it is supposed to be, so they aren't getting a bad batch, it is not mixed with PCP, etc.

Additionally, legalization would take away the crime factor. By freeing the prisons of nonviolent drug offenders, we can focus more on going after real criminals who kill, rape, assault, and steal.

I believe all drugs should be legal. If people want to harm themselves, I have no problem with that. The main concern should be that these people aren't harming others - that they aren't driving while high, they aren't harming others with secondhand smoke, and that any needles are disposed of in a safe manner.

Yes and No! When Uncle Sam can make a buck off of it and control the supply, this will happen!

Personally, I do not see a big problem with it being legalized! IMHO, it does not lead to use of other drugs. Stupidy does that on it's own!

Hope this helps,

I don't understand why it's illegal in the first place!

The only thing I can think of is that some people are jealous because users will often have positive, healthy experiences.

Sorry, but some university kid relaxing with a joint, in awe of the music she's listening to, is not a criminal in my eyes.

I don't even smoke the stuff!

What did making alcohol illegal do? It just increased organized crime and turned ordinary folk into criminals. Not only that but it flooded the market with unhealthy poor-quality alcohol.

Depends on how it would be regulated. If they treat it like alcohol on DUI's then how would you test it on the spot for usage in the event of an accident. But, I would not be opposed to it being legal.

Why, so the government can tax the hell out of it like they do with alcohol and cigarettes? Or so the FDA can regulate it? "Nope, this is substandard product, Morty, not fit for public consumption (inhale, exhale), let's move on to the next batch".....

Why not? Alcohol destroys more lives in my opinion! You don't ever hear of irate pot heads causing fights and running people off the roads do you?
