its the thought that counts and she's lucky he even got her something, maybe he just thought she liked cleaning but doesn't have a vacum

I personally wouldn't have a problem with it. Vacuums are expensive and we all need one, so I would consider it a very thoughtful gift. Honestly, I find that rather rude of your friend. It was a GIFT. Most men nowadays don't look down on women as lesser. They only think they are doing something NICE. It is a shame that women penalize men for giving a gift. He could have given her nothing at all. She needs to pick and choose her battles. Things could be a whole lot worse.

Vacuum cleaners cost money. It might just be his practical side trying to please her. If he is commenting that her place is in need of a good cleaning, that is rude and uncalled for. If she is going to be so free to assess blame over something as mundane as the gift of a vacuum cleaner which costs money, how will she choose to respond to genuine love or real caring or accepting the responsibility, God forbid, of returning any of the same?

Well there are two factors that govern this gift. A) she does not maintain her house and B) She really wants to keep her house clean but her vacuum is broken. The gift I am sure was made with a lot of thought So your friend does not talk to him it is really her loss. I would be happy to receive any gift weather I use it or not

Two years ago my boyfriend at the time paid for the two new tires I had put on my car, gave me the receipt for christmas. The year before he had gotten me a beautiful necklace. Some men just cannot do birthday or christmas presents! Sometimes it helps to throw a fit, sometimes it just hurts their feelings. When I complained, it hurt his feelings. I have since backed off on my presents to him, this makes me feel like I did less work so his lack of effort doesn't bother me as much.

I for one would be happy with any gift that I got from anybody, boyfriend, husband, aunt, uncle, mom , dad, etc. I look at it like this, it is not the gift that counts, it is the ideal and thought behind it that counts. When someone gets a gift that they don't like or want, I think it is rude for that person to be hateful and rude to the giver. I am very great full for any gift that I get, no matter what it is. Some women out there don't like it when someone gives them flowers and or candy. I am thank full for any gift that I get!!

No, I would not.

Unless I have been complaining about it and my old was is not working - - - because then it would mean he listens to me--- but it better be a really good vacuum like a DYSON!!!
Not some cheap target vaccum that cost less than 60$, you know what I mean...

Watch Father of the Bride with Steve Martin, sometimes guys are just clueless. But, not talking to him won't solve the problem if he thinks made a genuine decision...

If i needed a new one then OK but a vacuum cleaner?! Is he serious? Jeez man!
Yeah I'd be upset and i agree with the toilet brush comment but i wouldn't stop speaking to him because of it! I'd make sure he knew how i felt about it.... Then buy him the toilet brush for Christmas!

It's that different planet thing again....

Tell your friend to take it back to the shop for a refund. If they refuse a refund then go for an exchange. Either way she gets something for her that she wants. If she does get a refund tell her to buy a penis enlarger for her boyfriend as a little gift. Good luck.

How romantic! Next he'll ask her to go barefoot and get pregnant.
Is he still living in the dark ages? I'd be insulted, I'm not around to be anyone's slave. She needs a new boyfriend.
