I plan to retire at 62 which will be 8/20/07. How many months before that do I apply for soc security. Is it 3 months or 6 months?

Usually it's 3 months before you want benefits to start. For all your questions, see the below link.

You can apply for SSA benefits starting 3 months before your 62nd birthday. As you probably know, the longer you wait to receive benefits, the more you'll get in your monthly check.

The SSA website www.ssa.gov gives a lot of information. I use the calculator to see what I would receive if I started taking benefits at 62, 63, 64, 65 & 66.

Of course, If you trsut the government as little as I do, you will want to get money as early as possible. If you wait, you run the risk that they will change the rules.

I intend to do that when my time comes.

It's three months, I did it seven years ago though and I think it's higher than 62 now.

What a life, nowhere to go and all day to get there. Play around online and pick up a few extra bucks, then blast of for some fun place to visit.

Enjoy yourself my friend, enjoy yourself.

The rest of you who will keep on working so we keep getting paid, thanks!
