Obviously something motivates them to act in these ways.
There may be different factors and there are no generalisations. but there are far too many people in prison for committing these heinous crimes , and a much much greater number who exploit young girls around the earth today ( and boys too ).
I think that the worst behaviour is built up to from a foundation. Whatever the starting point, the person must ignore their conscience at some ponit or maybe they have been abused too and do not have any consideration for their poor victims.
On tv these people are portrayed as acting in a downward spiral getting more and more out of control. James 1 v 14

It's an incurable addiction. Or maybe a disease. I remember a few years back, a man was fighting to be kept IN prison. He was due to be released soon. He said he didn't want to be put back in population because he knew he would hurt another child and he didn't want too. He said he had no control over his actions when the urge to harm a child came upon him. I don't know what became of this man. I didn't hear any more about it on the news. Or I simply missed it. Personally, I think Ellis Island should be put to good use, now that it is no longer being used for anything. All the pedophiles should be put on that island for life and let them live there amongst themselves, and fend for themselves, away from civilization. They could have their own little colony and run it any way they please. It wouldn't cost the tax payers that much to guard the island so these people couldn't leave.

I think it is a metal defect and it is not their fault.

They do have free will though. And if they act on it, then it is their fault and they should be punished severely.

Those that have this affliction need to get treatment but again I stress they do know the difference between right and wrong and have the ability to control it. It is not something that they can realistically handle by themselvesmentally. They have wonderful drugs now to make it easy for them to live lawful lives.

It's a sexual orientation just like straight or gay. It's notoriously difficult to get someone to change their sexual orientation. Just look at all the failed programs that tried to change gay people. For that reason, I believe that a pedophilia conviction should result in life in prison with no possibility of parole. It's the only way to protect innocent children.

I think it is a disease that a person contracts from unhealthy behavior (i.e. indulging in pornography). As such it needs to be "healed" as much as punished.

Men aren't naturally attracted to undeveloped women. It is a learned experience. It is no surprise that instances of sexual abuse of children rise as society becomes more accepting of pornography.

I think they are acting on man's natural sinful nature. If it were not wrong to do this... and if it weren't a sin...I don't believe this would even happen! That doesn't excuse their behavior though.
