This was spoken in the workplace among coworkers. Is there a hidden mean? How should one react to that? i.e....Is it good/bad funny/rude ?

It can be either, depends in what context it was said. If it was said to me, my response would have been, "Why, yes I am!" and leave it at that. If they meant it as an insult then they would be flustered and not know what to say next, but if it was meant as a compliment then they would laugh.
Though I think it is more used as an insult then not.

It could mean "your something strange" or "your just useless"
It may be a total insult or in some situations it could be a complement. More often than not it is an insult but who knows if it was said as a funny thing like "YOUR a real piece of work" you are, then I would think it was okay. Hoping it was a funny statement. Happy Saturday.

Haha, no. Someone who is described as being "a real piece of work" is a big pain in the neck, difficult to deal with. It's definitely NOT a compliment!

The phase is meant as a polite way of telling you: "You're a disgusting piece of crap." I wouldn't take it as a compliment (unless for some reason you like being called that)

"Your a real piece of work" means depends on what the speaker means... but when somebody would tell you that you are a real piece of work.. it means you are a work of art!!!! For example a masterpiece of Salvador Dali can be considered a real piece of work!!! (He's my favorite!!) probably, if somebody would tell me that i am a "real piece of work" i would say "thank your for your appreaciation! that might mean that my dad and mom created me not because they are experimenting.... but they created me as a real piece of work"!!!

it means that u r really hard to get along with or befriend. u should react by saying a comeback. like: "right back at u!" or "i am? u should see _______?" (add another co-worker's name!) your a real piece of work is meant to be a funny but rude at the same time comment.

It depends how it was said. It could be good or it could be bad. If someone is being sarcastic, it could mean your either so dumb and stupid. But if someone is really impressed with you, it could mean you're so unique and different and you're like one in a million. So the meaning depends on the situation and how it was said. I hope this gives you an idea....

I kinda take it as rude..but in a playful kinda way. Some guys kinda use as a mini pick up line. But nothing you should freak out about. Could mean your kinda nuts, or could mean your great at something, or you have a nice body
