I gave that exact routine to my now husband after two dates. There was nothing wrong with him but at the time I was dating another guy and decided I had to pick between them. I remember him calling me immediately, and he was deeply upset, and said, "Don't you even think we have a future together?" I said no and didn't think anything more of it. A week later was my birthday and he sent me flowers. I was so surprised by that - and sent him an email to thank him. He wrote and said he was glad I liked them. A week later I felt the need to write him again (meanwhile, the other guy completely fizzled out), and my now hubby asked me out for drinks. A month later we went wedding ring shopping, 3 months after that he proposed. We've been together for 3 years, married 1 year. So anything is possible :)

yes it is the easy way out and it doesn't work very well either...but what can you say?? You don't want to crush someone and the bold truth will, so you do them a kindness or so you think and leave them confused instead of crying.

i do that to people a lot, and i know it sounds lame but it's usually true. it's like: there's not an inherent quality about the person that i dislike or need to get away from, it's my own psyche freaking out and making me want to leave. if someone tells you that, just take it at face value unless the person habitually makes excuses and is just bitching.

Yes, it is the easy way out because I didn't want to say what I really wanted to say because the guy was my friend and because I didn't want to add insult to heartbreak... Well, it was partly me and it was partly him so... :-)

I say--'Look, you are nice and I like you but we have nothing in common. It is better to just go ahead and end this now before someone gets hurt.' They always get mad as Hell.
