There are probably thousands of reasons why you are attracted to nerds, but not a single reason is THE reason why you like them.
Being a nerd helps, all nerds seek out other nerds for love and companionship, but so do dorks and geeks, so that isn't the only reason.
I like nerds too. There's something about a pale skinny white guy who spends days mastering Guitar Hero, and Final Fantasy, who can fix anything from cars to computers that really gets me going.

Because your smart, and smart people are attracted to smart people. I am also a nerd and I have given birth to nerds. I have noticed that nerds are picked on in school, but then are the ones who usually go on to be successful; so I am glad my son is a nerd. I look forward to him being a successful nerd and giving birth to more successful nerds.

Its how you assess yourself...there's a possibility that categorizes you as nerd also. But it doesn't mean that you have also same prefrences. Everyone of us either nerd or geek has its own way of living. Maybe you appreciate some traits that the nerd you like now that you can't find to others.
