she and a partner are doing a Social Studies project (7th grade!) on how peer pressure affects teen smoking and drinking. They want to do a survey, so your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Here is their question:
Do you either smoke or drink alcohol? And how old were you when you started? Please be honest as they want to use the responses as part of the project. Thank you for your help ahead of time!

I started to smoke when I was 13 years old. All of the people I was hanging with smoked and I wanted to fit in. I quit cold turkey when I was 28 years old. Some of the people I hang with are now dead or disabled from smoking and some I do not know where they are anymore. Although, like a lot of children of my generation, I did try drinking, it was never a habit and was very seldom. I like a beer with bar be que and if I go out to a nice resturant, I will have a glass of wine. I was a child of the 60s

I am 38 now and I smoke cigarettes. I started smoking cigarettes when I was in my 20s. I've quit several times, but always started up again. It is very addictive.
Sometimes, I do drink alcohol, but not in excess and certainly not more than once or twice in a month. I was 14 the first time I had a drink -- didn't do it again until college.

I'm 22 years old, and I only drink on ocassions (which is usually one cup of wine). I started when I was 20 years old. I do not smoke.

I have never smoked or drank at all. But I suppose I still have time left as I am only 17.

well when i was a freshman in HS i was in a clique. we were the goths, skaters, punks, etc. well one day i walked into school normally like i do only that day was different. i was offered "water" i didnt believe them so i declined and than they were all saying to me oh come on you know you want some, i wasnt sure but than a former friend of mine said to me " oh i bet she cant do it" i began chugging this "water" and it tasted horrible. it wasnt water rather that it was tequilla. that was the beginning and end of my drinking...

I never have. I know plenty of people who do, but all of them are miserable and have low self-esteem.
