She isn't threatening you, a restraining order won't fly.
A public place like a field or playground isn't private like your home. As hard as this is to hear, try to make some sort of peace with her for the sake of your son so he isn't pulled apart. I really can understand your not wanting to speak to her, but if she is willing to stand on the other side of the field and cheer your son on, then let her, it can only make you look good. By insisting on her staying away this way you only come off sounding bitter and petty and angry. Which you probably are, but she is going to be in your sons life and its the childs happiness which is most important, and hes not going to be happy if he is forced to listen to endless court battles and papers being served and yelling and anger. Please, think of him first and work something out, a child can't have too many people who care for him.

I doubt if they'll grant you a restraining order, when she really isn't being verbally abusive or physically harassing you. Did you talk to your X husband about it? You really have to have some merit in order to get a restraining order and I don't think her just being in the vicinity is enough.

Painful. But..
Be happy she is going to his sporting events, and you really shouldn't want to stop that. You are his only mother, be secure in that, and let other people enjoy him too. I am sure he is old enough to have a say in the matter, since you didn't talk about it, I am sure he wants her around or doesn't mind it.
Become a team player open up your life to his.

the restraining order is your only option it seems at this point. however i would seek legal advise from your lawyer before you apply for it. if this person violates it she will be arrested and charged accordingly for willful violation of a no contact order by a judge and could be handcuffed and removed from your sons game or where ever the violation takes place. hopefully he would not have to see this take place but if she can't take a hint it sucks to be her.

You may no like her, but from what you explained she has done nothing wrong.
Maybe it would be a good idea to at least try to get along with her. If her and your ex-hubby get married she will become your son's step mother.

It is certainly worth a try. You can start by inquiring at the courthouse, or to the police, but I expect that by the time the dust settles you will need to deal with a lawyer.
