I'm a senior and I'm graduating on May 2007. I'm still unsure of what I want to do in life. In 7th grade I wanted to become a teacher. I thought that that was my final decision then high school came. I changed my mind from teacher to fashion designer then back to teacher. Then I wanted to become a registered nurse. But I changed my mind to a pharmacist. Now, I am totally confused. I have no idea what I want to do. I'm creative and good at art and I'm also good at giving advice and helping people. I'd like to do something that would allow me to socialize with others. I don't want to do something monotonous or anything that requires chemistry or physics or literature/english. Something that involves history, biology, or pychology and no more than a 4-year degree I'd be interested in. Any suggestions?

If college is your next step, all freshman have basic courses that they must take. This will give you some time to think and explore. While you're there, explore all the departments on campus.

It's a balancing act. What is it that you enjoy? Can that be a career? What are you good at.? Will that put a roof over your head?

The summer before college, GO TO WORK! That's the best way to narrow it down. You may not enjoy being a sales girl at the mall. But you may like the idea of OWNING a retail store. You may hate being on fries at McDonalds, but you may like the idea of being involved with the company that provides the fries. If you love to read, how about library sciences. Yes! librarians need a degree these days.

Volunteer at the hospital. That way, you can see what nurses do. Get a job at a daycare center. You'll find out REAL quick if you want to be around children all day. Talk to people everywhere you go. Ask them what do they do, how much they make, how much school did it require.

At the age of 37, I went back to school. I went through a 1 year program at a community college. I had secretly wanted to be in the medical field but I couldn't afford to go to school for four years. Now, my eyes fly open at 5:30 every morning. I can't wait to get to work. I'm a surgical technician. Do something that you will enjoy. Don't waste 15 years doing something that you hate.

Graduating Senior...

In general research the jobs that will be available in 3-4 years from now. Better chances are available in health care of some sort with the aging baby boomers, rather than finding a job as a chemist. It may take you years to find the right chemist job and if you were specialized in some area, chances are you would have to commute or move.

If you don't know, take the approach to learn and put aside. One day you will come across a job that fits what you know.

Well you ambition is good!! I would go ahead and take the electives and get those out of the way. The classes you know you would need to take to fill a degree in any of the careers you are interested in. Talk to some people in the fields that you mentioned and ask them questions like: What do you like most about your job; what is your average day like, etc. People love to talk about themselves and I think you will find them most receptive your inquiries. Good luck to you!!!

Start by analyzing your personal strengths and weaknesses. Then get into a good liberal arts college. Get some aptitude tests as soon as possible which help tremendously in showing your talents. I thought pharmacy was the thing for me too, but I ended up in business management and customer service --- loved it !!!

GET INTO COLLEGE AND TAKE THE BASIC EVERY HAS TO COURSES. FROM THAT YOU'LL GET ALOT OF IDEAS. YOU CAN ALSO TAKE ELECTIVES TO SEARCH OUT OTHER AREAS THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST TO YOU. IN OTHER WORDS THAT'S NOT A QUESTION YOU HAVE TO ANSWER RIGHT NOW. ONCE IN COLLEGE YOU'LL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A LIST AND NARROW DOWN THE CHOICES.
GOD BLESS
