Wash them in Gain with Fabreeze. That should do the trick. You may have to wash them a few times.

Mildew is mold - a living organism that thrives in warm, humid environments. If your clothes become mildewy, your best bet is to act right away. The longer it stays on the fabric, the more time mildew has to weaken or even rot your clothes.

1) You could get a product called Mold-Off. It is a little expensive but it does work, that's the first link!

2) You could use baking soda and vinegar in the wash with detergent. (use the hottest water to kill the mold) More info from others who have tried. That's the second link.

Two suggestions.
1. Spray with Febreze.
2. Wash with Tide, use a cup of Vinegar in the final rinse water.
Works every time.

Lay regular charcoal in your basement, or spred lime, or baking soda to obsorb the smell. Then laundry the clothing

I would try washing them .with a bleach substitute
