I have a 1994 325i BMW.There is a small little chain about 4 inches hanging from the bottom of my car. It's towards the trunk and I just noticed it today. What is that?

It is the exhaust hanger. Do not ignore this, since it will cause additional wear and tear to the lower end of the exhaust (the hangers are placed there to keep the pipes well-connected amidst all the up and down bumps). It's not like something will happen tomorrow, but for a $10 repair job not to have to buy a new muffler and new tailpipe(s) and new rear pipe, I think it's healthy to repair the chain. Just try to stop in to any muffler shop this week and get it fixed.

Your chain must have come off the sprocket. Ha Ha - Just kidding. I can't think of anything back there that would look like a chain but whatever it is, it shouldn't be hanging down. Try pulling it off maybe.

crawl under and take a look at what its connected to, if it looks like its important, it probably is very important and that should tell you how quick you need to get it to a shop, if it doesnt look important, then just cut the chain, and hope it wasnt doing anything specifically...good luck :)

No panic. It is probably one of the exhaust hangers. Take it to a mechanics, it should not be a big problem. Good luck.

I wouldn't pull it off if I was you. Take to the dealer or a mechanic and ask them

DO NOT pull it off! I have had very bad experience with BMW's.
