My neighbor's tree is so overgrown it extends out into the street and scratches the top and side of my car every time I have to drive by their house. I can't avoid driving by their house to get to my house and I'm tired of my new car getting scratched up. What can I do to get them to trim their tree? Who should I contact to get them to take care of it? I'm about at the point of trimming the darn thing myself if it doesn't get taken care of soon. -_-

Give them the chance to take care of it first before you call the fuzz. Chances are they will oblige you, just be nice and tell them what you just told us. If they are old or handicapped in some way, you could offer to do it, then lastly I would contact the court house and ask who the right authorities are to talk with. I would approach it nicely first though. Good luck.

You can't make them cut it if they don't want to. You might be able
to make a case as a traffic hazard and get code compliance
people make them cut it. Other than that, explain the problem
and ask them if you can cut it at your own expense - just
enough so your car can pass through.

Are they aware of your concerns?
Have you asked them to trim it?
Have you offered to help them trim it?

If the answer to ALL of these questions is yes, spend the $35 and take them to small claims court.

Where do you live? And why does the city not cut it back if it is in the street? Call the city.
