My wifes ford f-10 was making a clattering noise...I took it to 3 different places....and got 3 different answers.
I said screw it I'll take a lookk and it turned out to be a loose brake caliper bolt.
And here are these suppossed trustworthy places lying to me.....Firestone, Midas, and the Ford dealer.

the problem is that you took it to the 3 places mentioned above. You need to find a stand alone independent mechanic in your area. Try going to www.cartalk.com and type in your zip code and you should be able to read what other people in your area have to say about mechanics. Now I am not saying that all big name companies are bad just a few of them give the other a bad name. But I never have nor will i take my car to a dealer or Firestone or any other company like that.

I guess I'm the odd one. I always go to the dealership, because they usually know the problem as soon as I describe it. They know the common problems with their make of vehicle and don't have to guess like someone that's working on a different car every hour. I've had terrible luck with Firestone and many small shops, that's why I pay $20 / hr more and get the good job. I don't have to wait for someone else's car to get done. They get the work done right away . I have both Ford & Chevy. Guess I just found the right dealerships.

I agree - the dealership will ALWAYS try to rape you. I stopped taking my Camaro there because of the ungodly prices for repairs.

As for Firestone, Midas, or any national chain, I think they get away with overpriced diagnoses because they know there are customers that will go for it. A local garage, on the other hand, doesn't have national advertising or word of mouth, and so they want to make sure customers are happy and trust them. So they usually do the best, most honest work.

Personally, I remember trying to bring my car to a Pep Boys to find out why my "Service Engine Soon" light was turned on. They wanted $80 just to attach the diagnostic tool that would read the car's computer.

That's $80 to plug in a wire to my dashboard. Unbelievable.

whats up are some MOT factors that are right down to the discretion of the MOT tester, ie, one tester would fail a quite perished CV gaiter, while yet another would in basic terms recommend you on it yet enable it pass, and different such trivial stuff. a good party of it really is i latterly had a Laguna for a Pre-MOT inspection, and the in basic terms component i stumbled on became there became some play contained in the steerage rack which I deemed adequate to be a failure because it became particularly extreme. after I suggested the owner, he suggested "Oh sure, i became cautioned on that on the ultimate MOT very last year. They informed me the rack would want replacing for the subsequent MOT" He took the motorized vehicle away and placed it in for the attempt and it surpassed....without an advisory for the steerage rack this time, even although they cautioned him the year till now, and it became now a lot worse!! Brakes are yet another gray section. they are typically quite undesirable, yet nonetheless meet the MOT criteria because they pull in a instantly line and (finally) stop the motorized vehicle, yet in case your handbrake is going up in basic terms one click too many, it fails! As you will see, its all right down to even if the tester had a good evening the evening till now coupled with some different contributing factors, which incorporates what he has in his sandwiches, or perhaps if the tea boy is as a lot as scratch. heavily although, there are diverse gray parts and differing discretions between testers and attempting out stations, and that i imagine someone has already suggested, and intensely rightly so, once you've stumbled on a mechanic you've faith, keep on with them. very suitable regards Geordie

Ford service sucks ...period!! Infamaously bad!!! I am suprised that you got bad service from Firestone, they are usually good. I like to go to small shops and talk to the guy for a while first.
