Because they're Pis in the sky!
Air with a motion of 1 metre per second upwards is described as having 1 Pi. Glider pilots look for air with vertical motion (upwards)
Glider pilots are so immersed in searching for Pis in the sky (lift) that they never feel hungry.
Take up gliding (or sailplaning, if you're in North America) and never feel hungry again while you look for those wonderful Pis in the sky

I know Pi to a thousand places, dont have grilles but still wear braces.
I do Pythagoras just for fun, Whizz at Minesweeper, Stephen Hawkings in my Library.
I could sure kick your butt at a game of pingpong, ace any trivia quiz you bring on, fluent in Java Script as well as Kling-on.
oh, and I edit Wikipedia,
