I have had this flag proudly displayed outside my house on the front porch, but it has been worn out from the wind. Obviously, I don't want to throw it away and I would never burn it. Does anyone know what the proper procedure is for honorably retiring this flag?

There is a VFW in my town, should I take it there?

Taking it to the VFW is a good option. Another is check and see if there is a scout troop in your area, sometimes they will have classes for scout on the proper handling and retiring of them. You could also simply bury it in your yard, or even burn it. If burning a flag for retirement purposes its not unlawful. Then again you can just put it away in a box in the garage awaiting the proper retirement. Just do this if it is worn and tattered that bad it should not be displayed, please take it down and get a new one.

Yes, I know the answer to your question. In your town/city, the Veterans VFW, will take your flag and honorably do away with it. They ususlly hold a flag session once a year to do away with the worn out flags. Contact your local VFW.
