Yes! I can understand your point of view but I don't have to agree with it. Understanding means you are open to other possibly answers or explanations. Agreeing means you share the same point of view.

I know what you mean... I think it's just that people don't understand certain things, or they don't get that there's a difference between the two. For example, you can HEAR someone but not be LISTENING to them... but anyway, some people are one-sided. You can say you understand them, so they are convinced that you're on their side... but then if you say, but wait, I don't agree... then they get all confused because some people do not go into it anymore than the basic "Ok, I get you." They just don't understand the "but wait" part. lol, but don't worry... both one-sided and two-sided people can make perfectly good arguments (though of course, it gets a little frustrating when with the one-sided)

OMG! This is a very funny thing that happens, when opposites attract. I have no problem with understanding, yet not agreeing with what someone says. Then they try to make you, share their view. Yet you are looking through you lenses of LIFE. What is with that? I pray and walk away, from those type of individuals! I advise you to do the same.

Ok here is a perfect example. I understand what you are talking about. Yet I do not agree that this is a question.

I don't understand, so let's just agree to disagree.

Hmmm... I think maybe some people believe in things so strongly that when you say you understand, they think that means you believe the same thing. I can see how your predicament can be frustrating.
The best thing you can do is answer with,"I understand, but I also think...." and take it from there.

I think I understand what you are asking, but not certain.
I remember and argument with my then husband, one of those dumb ones about why did I do what I did numbers. His personality required that I admit to be "stupid, or at least an apology for upsetting him". I no longer remember what it was that I failed to do correctly, but I do remember what went through my head: "I did use my head, you're wanting me to use your head!"
Unfortunately, humans rarely want you to disagree, ever. They usually want you not only to agree, but in their words, in their tone of voice, and in their timing.
