I work for £5.35 (minimum wage) doing heavy manual work, I get no overtime (despite regular 12 hour + shifts), no sick pay and no holiday pay.
You are getting a bad deal (not as bad as I am getting) and should look for a better job. Do a course and improve your career - £200 a week will hardly pay anything these days and you need to start saving money and getting a decent pension.

Sounds to me like you are on the statutory minimuum wage. The average wage in England is supposed to be around £400 a week. Believe it or not. Last i heard on minimuum wage was £5.80 per hour before tax. Although the minimuum wage has gone up over the last 5 years. Maybe you were on good wages before and now you just get the minimuum? It works out at £5.12 an hour. (Just under $10.00 per hour). As for the help. No idea. There are many struggling. Most where i live have decided that the best way out is to do their back in or suffer from depression.

£800 a month is too low to survive in my opinion. I am not sure about factory work but if you want to earn more I would recommend studying. I started work in 1995 earning £3.50 an hour in a small store and have studied IT since by doing Microsoft Exams and others and now I earn about £25,000 before tax which should go up to £27000 next year. I am doing a low paid job for my knowledge and experience because I work for a Charity. In private companies I would earn about £35,000 or more but it's not about the money now. I changed jobs on average ever 1 and a half years.

Basically knowledge and experience will help you earn more. Ask your company if they have an education program they may be able to get you trained to do jobs that will earn you more money.

Good luck

Hello,

So you get about £5.12 per hour after tax, which is barely above minimum wage... :(

You should:
Talk to your employer, tell them that you've been there for 5 years and not really had a good pay rise; and ask them to be more generous with your pay or you feel that you may have to find a new job as your current income is not sustaining your lifestyle.

If they refuse to, then look for a new job which pays a better wage. I'm sure you can get over £5.12 an hour working in Mc Donalds; and I'm sure you could easily find a new job which pays £6-8 per hour which is easier than factory work...

Thanks and good luck.

no no no i dont know what you do but it seems to me wrong that the government taxes people so much who earn £250 a week + no wonder so many people are working on the side!,i believe if a business cant pay staff at least £7.00 an hour they should not be in business.we should be more like france and cause a stink, people are being abused, you should not live to work,no wonder crime is on the increase and every one is selling drugs!i hear you and it is terrible how england treats it's people who pay taxes and keep it afloat.it really is shameful

Sounds quite reasonable for factory work seeing as most people in factories are on minimum wage.
You should find out if you are entitled to tax credits though as you are on a low wage.

Your pay should have been increased at least in line with inflation over the last five years.

If you were taking home £200 a week 5 years ago it should now be at least £230. With extra experience, maybe more.

Fooooooooook honest dude I would not work for that small amount of cash (not being funny or clever) Tell your boss to stop being a tight tw+t or find a new boss.

No raise in five years? I would have thought you would have had one or two raises in that time. Is the conversion about $340.00?

Maybe you need further education to earn more pay.

If you work as a waiter or in catering you would get more because you would get tips as well, but they should give you a pay rise every year, take your loyalty somewhere else.
