I recently moved to a conservative part of the country. Conservative politicians win here and in every area, except one, conservatism is the norm. Any guess what that exception is? Yep, the local papers.
Why is that you think? The answer is not so suprising and is well researched. Go to any University and peek into the Journalism classes. Ask the professor if you can poll the politics of the pimply faced youngsters. No matter what school your at, your looking at 99-100% leftist. However, the reverse is true when you look at hard science majors and business majors.
PEW did 2 studies on political bias in the media, and showed in each, that the journalists are primarily leftists.
Remember your high school paper staff? Were they the beatnickish counter-culture types or kids with chips-on-the-shoulder?
The terrible irony of this is, in journalism, the ideal candidate is someone without an axe to grind, yet leftist swamp journalism hoping they can one day influence public opinion

To a great extent it has to do with personal choice. Mathmatics, physics, and hard sciences are all majors that require logical and critical thinking. Journalism, liberal arts, and arts degrees can be achieved without such logical abilities. So while a logical thinker could excel in any of these programs, they are more likely to find frustration being surrounded by those without their abilities. Those without the capacity for logical thought cannot excel in the sciences. I am sure I am going to get a lot of thumbs down for this from those unable to follow the simple logic.

Careers are, to a certain extent, self-selected, so it isn't shocking that the political makeup of certain professions (including journalism) reflect this self-selection. I hear a lot about "liberal bias" in higher education, complaints founded on the fact that most academics tend to be left leaning. The argument tends to go that since conservatives are the minority amongst professors, it must be that they are excluded. Having served on hiring committees, I know that this isn't the case -- the fact is that most people who get terminal degrees in the social sciences and humanities are left-leaning to begin with and so most of the applicants appear to be left-leaning as well. It seems to me that liberals are much more likely to enter fields like journalism and academics, whereas conservatives tend to dominate the more lucrative private sector areas -- finance, marketing, etc. Why this is, I can't tell you.
But you should look a little further into the academic literature on media bias. Pew and Annenberg have done numerous studies and most show that while most journalists identify themselves as liberals, the editors and higher ups are more likely to be conservative. Furthermore, as far as I have read, there have been no content analyses of print newsmedia that demonstrates a liberal bias in content. That is, just because most journalists are liberals does not necessarily mean that the work they produce is biased and if it is biased, it is not clear that it is biased purely to the left. Rather, a study (I believe Annenberg) showed that newspapers tended to be socially liberal, fiscally conservative, and pro-business (advertising being crucial to media) -- not simply "left" or "right". There is a ton of literature on media bias - you should get a better grasp of it before you make grand assumptions that can't necessarily be backed up.

I be apologetic approximately that i did no longer get a level. finding back with a bit of luck provide you some know-how. What I relatively have got here upon is that in case you have a great area of which you persue a level in, that line of artwork would possibly no longer have the call for which you expected. i think of business employer administration is unlikely away. that must be a sturdy determination, and could make it easier to while you're basically finding to prevail. understanding, business employer, finance, merchandising and marketing, and something to do with a thank you to run a business employer is a sturdy determination i think of. i'm unsure approximately getting a job good out of faculty.

Journalists come in every persuasion and you are a bigot. You probably think all Jews speak yiddish and all Mexicans want your job.
Americans come in every persuasion too. Leftists believe in conservative ideals, and conservatives want to protect the environment and to help poor people.
If you haven't been in this country very long, you need to get out of the dark and sit down to talk with people who are not like you. Your eyes will be opened wide to what America is all about.
Here is an article about conservatives who want to vote Republicans out of office because they feel it's the only way to get rid of George Bush:

I agree.
There are programs at conservative schools to fix this disparity, but it will take some time for them to break into the field, which is controlled by insiders, just like every other field.
By the way, you could say the same of the Law. We're working on that, too.

This is not true. Conservatives do NOT want papers to not be objective or balanced, but want them to reflect their own prejudices.
Conservatives tend to have closed minds, refusing to consider anything that challenges their prejudices. There are whack-job conserative outlets out there, and even a cable news network that panders to these prejudices, but no one really takes them seriously.

hahaha... you've figured it out... that's why they dominate the high school papers, so one day they can dominate the world!
how did you get into our secret meeting and find out our plans? who told you the secret knock to get into the clubhouse?
have you ever been into a "hard" science class at a universtity? if so, you would see the TONS, TONS AND TONS of liberals there... so I really have no idea what you're talking about on that one... apparently you don't know any scientists?
but business... I'll agree with you on that...
the simple fact is... journalism doesn't pay enough for Republicans to go into it... on the whole...
