Theres lots of great mp3 players on the market don't get sucked in by a cultural mean. Never trust in what is popular when it comes to electronics and technology. Look at data matt and vhs, Data matt for its time was the best technology out there. It was small compact and had 3 times the defeinition of VHS but what happened was VHS became the buzz word and Data Matt was doomed. Its whats happening with itunes and ipods and virtually everything. The industry basiically tells the customer what it should have thats why you can liusten to mp3's on your phone but you still need to download ring tones. I have one pda electronic device that does everything I listen to my music on I enter important ivents on to my calander on its also a camera, I send and receive emails, it also my car navigater, I browse the full internet I make video and regular calls on it,

Yeah...it's worth getting an mp3 player but DO NOT GET AN IPOD! Everyone likes them, but as a previous answer said, they are mainly for show. The are far more expensive than many other players that have more functions. Most people cannot fill up 30gb of space with music. And the Nano has such an abominable battery life that it is a joke. An mp3 player is definitely the way to go...but get a good one. I recommend rio, or sandisk. Plus, itunes is a joke. It uses a format that is incompatible to other things without a converter, and the programming is terrible. The music store has a very limited number of songs.

My opinion but since it's the "in thing" right now the prices are way too high plus those things are over rated. Just about everyone has one...who cares? If you have to have it then get one but what you're doing is better b'cause it's saving you money and that you can trust instead of something that will break and what would you do then?

Depends. I use and MP3/CD player. its a CD player that plays MP3 CD's and audio CD's depending on which you get, it ranges, from $20-$60. many also play WMA. one CD on average will hold about 100 songs. and most CD's are cheap.
