I think National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.. I still watch it every year. Best bit for me is when he says merry christmas to his boss.. and when he is sitting crying to the old tapes of christmas's gone by.. and someone opens the trapdoor and he falls straight through.. aww.. lovely. I can relate to some of it big style

Thanks everyone. I have seen all the films you have mentioned and they are all fab!! I especially love the home alone ones.. When that spider crawls on his chest.. the scream he gives.. fab acting. I love Labyrinth as well.. . . I have had so much heartache lately and you have ALL cheered me up.. might be lonely this christmas but lots to watch..

Home Alone, or Labyrinth, I know it's not about Christmas, but they play it every year and it just reminds me of Christmas.

I agree with G.K. Willie-- Bad Santa, A Christmas Story, and It's a Wonderful Life. I'd add Miracle on 34th St. (the old one) and, not a movie, but PeeWee Herman's Christmas special is a scream. Another fave of mine is a cartoon in which the Ghostbusters bust the ghosts from Dickens's Christmas Carol.

A Christmas Carol starring Patrick Stewart is great, as is Scrooged starring Bill Murray.
I thought Bad Santa was pretty funny but I think a proper Christmas film should be suitable for kids.
Every year I watch the He-Man & She-Ra Christmas Special (it reminds me of when I was a kid) and now I can't imagine Christmas without it. I guess the main thing that makes a great Christmas film is how much you like it and how much you associate it with Christmas.
"I think you're feeling the Christmas Spirit, Skeletor. It makes you feel good." - She-Ra
"Well, I don't like to feel good! I like to feel evil! Ohhh!" - Skeletor
"Don't worry, Skeletor... Christmas only comes once a year." - He-man
That always gets me into the Chritmas spirit!

This may not be everyone's choice, but, for sentimental reasons.....Ghostbusters. The very first year that my daughters were getting those larger put-together presents from Santa, that movie kept one of Santa's more reluctant helpers great company. Over twenty years later... all the girls are grown and gone now...maybe I don't have to put in the allnight work....I still do though...everyone needs toys...no matter how old we get...I still sit up after midnight helping Santa get ready for the big day with a worn tape of Ghostbusters in the machine. That's Christmas.

Any of the Christmas Carol movies. I always get choked up when Scrooge mends his ways and starts to keep Christmas.
