I have to do a research project on the band sublime, and I have to present a speech to class all about the band. How should I start the speech? Something to get there attention..but nothing embarrassing.

Start with an interesting riff or quote from one of their songs. Lead in with a way to get the audiences attention verbally. Such as "Death of another rock star....." or " I smoked two joints...(3 second pause) ..... is a song by Sublime. "

Well, know how to project your voice so everyone in the crowd could hear you. When writing a speech, just put it in your own words, dont make it so complicated, but don't make it boring. Make it short and simple. You should begin your speech, by introducing yourself and make a funny line, so the crowd just doesn't think you are up there just saying a speech. Most of the time, move around and dont look at the paper so much. Try to memorize your speech, not by word for word, by what comes out of your mind and said through words.

Yes some startling statistic or story will grab their attention. Or start singing one of their songs.
