The killings will continue if he is dead or not. We invaded their country. If another country invaded us to take out our evil president whom we do not like, do you think our country would stop fighting back from the take over and let them dictate to us on how we should run it?

Its true, it may seem like an execution of Saddam will only incite a zeal leading to more, more, and more death. There are two reasons however that this must be completed should there be a small amount of hope for stability in the region.

1. Social/Psychological aspect: As an insurgent who is fighting the foregin occupation and who respects Saddam as a figurehead, the excecution will at first be an insult and a reason to fight. Very shortly, however, you will come to realize that the God-like status that many held him as will fall, and with that their belief that they are undefeatable. The execution will remove a large amount of fervor in the long run because there isnt an icon to follow or support. Basically, as long as he is alive, people will fight for him. Once he dies, there will be a last ditch attempt followed by grim realization.

2. Political: The execution of Saddam will represent the new government's ability to make fair and official decisions. By legally charging, trying, and punishing him the new government is making a statement that they are correct and that they are different, It relates directly to the American Revolution, in which a fledgling American justice system tried and found innocent the British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre. It sent a message to the international community that they were civilized and instead of killing out of revenge, they did the right thing.

Overall, sure its a "victory" that he will be executed. And sure it will incite more fighting and maybe the worst days of the campaign to come. But it must be done, because overcoming this hill will allow for a smoother road in the future.

I keep remembering the first words he said, in English, to the soldier who found him cowering in his little hole in the ground:

"D O N ' T S H O O T !!"

Do you think this is the "stuff" of which martyrs are made?

I don't know what effect it will have on the people in Iraq if or when Saddam gets executed. I do know that his death will remove the possibility of Saddam being in power again.

Disagree, the insurgents are going to kill as many people as possible regardless of what happens to Saddam, when he is executed, then some that think he will come back into power will stop fighting and join in rebuilding their country.

Yes, it takes away the figure head of the Bath party. It lets the Iraqi people know he will never be in charge again. Both of which will be viewed as moral victories over there. I doubt Iraq will go berserk but we will see.

No, Saddam obeyed the laws of the court too much to become a marty. He was too selfish for living instead of the cause of the insurgents. He will not be a marty if put to death

Saddam needs to be handed over to the widows and children of the men he ordered killed, but any execution will be good for Iraq.

US liberals are just hoping he will somehow escape, so they can capitalize themselves.

relies upon what you propose by capacity of did Iraqis execute Saddam - do you propose is he incredibly lifeless or do you propose replaced into it a political execution demanded by capacity of the people? in case you propose the former then no, it replaced right into a lookalike who died and Saddam is working the Flippy Chippy with Elvis Presley. in case you propose the latter, nicely, permit's in basic terms say George B and Tony B are in all probability congratulating themselves on a job nicely executed - ignoring, needless to say, the tens of hundreds who died (and proceed to die) interior the approach. playstation . i do no longer rather have faith it replaced right into a lookey-likey who swung.

he should not be put to death for the reasons you say. and i dont like being called a right winger. i think he should be put in a prison cell in somewhere like china. 4X3 cell and never allowed out and fed rotten rice for the rest of his miserable life. maybe we can even get a woman to hand him his koran...oh never mind that one. he should be given a bible and a pot to piss in.........thats it.
