My concern is simple. We are being bombarded everywhere we look and listen about how we are damaging the planet. We are urged to turn off lights, turn of 'standby' to use the bus or walk. However it disgusts me that supermarkets continue to keep their lights on after closing! that high rise buildings have their lights on 24/7! that the same offenders have their computers on 24/7! surely it is logical to assume that if these were switched off as much as possible, costs would decrease, the amount of pollution would decrease, the cooker effect which is London would decrease and it would encourage me for one to be more inclined to switch off my lights if its part of a national effort!!

What I find funny is that one day we're being given all this advice on how to save the planet for our children. Then, the next day, we're being told that our children are the worst in Europe! F.uck 'em, they don't care about society so why should we care about their existence?

Are you serious? Where would rescue centers get the money to PAY people to have their b*tches spayed? Why would anyone pay to have their dogs spayed if they could be paid to do it? This would cause a whole mess of problems. That money would be much better spent helping dogs in need then on some worthless loser who doesnt care enough to fix their dog? I agree that something has to be done to reduce overpopulation but I can assure you that paying irrrsponsible people is not the answer. Like everyone else said the money that these organizations have is much better spent on caring for dogs. If I found out that my money was going to PAY morons who refuse to spay their dogs I would be LIVID and would never, ever donate again. Shelters go above and beyond in offering free spay and neuter clinics- tgey should not be expected to pay duk grown adults to care for their dogs properly. Obviously your heart is in the right place but phrase think through what you are suggesting- its silly and encourages irresponsibility. The answer is v

I'm not sure if I agree or not - but I think its important to impart the
counter-arguments here:

1: Lots of institutions keep the lights on during off hours so that police
and other passers by can keep on eye on the security.

2: Lots of companies recommend that you leave your monitor on because
turning it on and off a lot shortens the life of the device (not sure what
this means with LCD and Plasma devices now, but that was certainly
the line of thought with tubes).

I totally agree with you, so much energy is wasted.
People should write to theit MP and local council to complain...it takes very few letters to make an MP take notice...so if lots of us did it we would achieve something.

I agree and I will name and shame! Matalan in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria had its car park floodlights on every day throughout the summer!

did you know that it takes more energy to switch on and off lights, that's why big places tend to leave the lights on.

It should not have to be a national effort for you, you should do it to please your self.
