which ip address are you talking about the one when you sign on the internet or your computers ip address? you can't change the one your computer has but the one your internet company assigns to you can be changed. of course depending on if you have static or dynamic ip addresses assigned to you which would depend on your internet provider.

First, make sure you have duplicate IP addresses on the computers.
1. Click, Start, Run
2. Type cmd.exe and press enter (opens a black window)
3. Type ipconfig and press enter (make note of your IP Address)
If you don't have duplicate IP's, re-post with more specific details of your problem.
If you have duplicate IP's, there are a couple ways to make a change, it could be the PC or it could be your router.
If you are manually entering the IP Addresses on the computers, return to the network connections properties window and change the TCP/IP settings so that the addresses are different. Please note that the subnet mask and gateways should be the same. Only the IP address needs to be different. If the address is something like 192.168.0.100, then change the last "octet" (last set of numbers after the last decimal point) to any number between 2 and 254. In this example, I'd select .101 (The new address would be 192.168.0.101)
If your PC's are configured to "obtain an IP address automatically" then you probably need to fix your router (although this would be a very rare problem). The router setup has an entry for a range of permitted IP Addresses. If you only list one IP address in your range (like 192.168.0.100 to 162.168.0.100) then any computer that connects will get that address. If you change the range to 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.101, then you will have two addresses given out by the router.

it depends on whether you setup static ips or dynamic (static is just that it doesn't change). First try going into network settings and right click on the connection, select the tcp/ip and then properties. On the window that opens select to obtain ip automatically and dns automatic, the goto alternate tab and be sure its automatic. Then click okay and okay again. Then right click the connection again and select repair. Should reassign an ip. If you made the ips static in the router you'll have to login to the router and search around for the device list and then go through the process of changing it there. Since most isps change the ip address from time to time it should be set to assign automatically.

Enable DHCP on your router, and configure both computers to obtain an IP address automatically. The router will then assign unique IP addresses to the two computers.

This is why WindBlows has DHCP. It automatically assigns IP addresses so you don't have to. The Linksys wireless router / switch handles DHCP out of the box so you don't have to configure it either.
You still can MANUALLY assign IP addresses for each PC in WindBlows ( or LINUX ) if you prefer. This is done in the TCP/IP settings in the network connections---> properties section in WindBlows. You have to keep track of manual settings though. If you want STATIC routes, you have to configure BOTH ends of the connection.
If you want to keep your IP secret on the net, use Anonymous or hide_my_ip.
