G'day,
I take it that they are 2nd hands. You will need to make sure to check as follows:
1. Battery condition
2. Charger condition
3. LCD display condition (any dead pixel or crack?)
4. Are the ports working (eg USB)
5. Warranty - how long and what will it cover\
6. Recovery CD - to reinstall your OS in case of virus attack or HDD fault etc.
Configuration-wise, the Compaq is a little better.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Never go cheap on a laptop, you cannot upgrade it later. If you hope to play games on it, get a super craphics card. 32mb isnt much, id do at least 128.
I wouldn't go cheaper on a laptop than $700 range.
Get a desktop if you don't need a laptop. You can buy a super desktop for $500 and just install a graphics card in it later if you want to get into serious gaming.
The compaq is the better of the two if you MUST get one of these.

Depends on what you use it for. For gaming the first would be best, but needs a hard drive upgrade, better video card and more RAM. The second one is better suited for a buisness use, with the price lower. Depending on the type of work, however, either of these wont be that great of an option.

You didnt mention what is the graphics card on the ibm one! If its not worth mentioning I would go for the compaq one... (graphics cards cannot be changed unlike memory chips on laptops so if you want to be able to play a game of two choose the compaq)

The Compaq sounds better just by the RAM and processor speed. I know IBM has reliable desktops, but not sure about their laptop status.

The compaq laptop sounds good. They are really the same because you get what you pay for.
If you can wait I would, there are holidays sales coming up and they'll be plenty of great deals out there. Just keep checking the ads.
It all depend what Ur going to use it for.
Good luck!

It relies upon on your economic state at this second. that is less expensive to purchase a clean battery than an finished new pc, so in case you don't want to spend a lot of money, go ahead and get the battery. That suggested, your pc is kinda old. There are belongings you may want to do to postpone the existence of the computer, in spite of the indisputable fact that that is on its way out. i'd in all likelihood go ahead and get a clean pc if that is on your funds.

Out of the two I'd get the second one, IBM is more trustworthy. But if I had to choose any laptop besides those two, I'd get a Mac. Windows tends to get viruses easier.
Make sure you get a good antivirus/spyware, etc etc thing so your computer lasts longer.
