Oh, you smoke? Well how about I let you smoke after I'm done moaning...? I think that should be acceptable.

I can see what you are trying to get at, but that's a bit of a generalisation really.

I'm a non smoker but I really do not mind other people smoking - as long as they don't do it near me purposely.

Most of my family smoke and I've learnt to understand and appreciate that everyone is entitled to make their own choices in life whether that be regarding health, love or anything else.

The non smokers that 'moan' as you put it, probably just dislike it and see it as a dirty and undesirable habit to have.

I haven't noticed many non smokers 'always' moaning about the smokers so I'm not sure where you got the idea from.

However if some one (a non smoker) does make a remark that you find offensive (that's if you smoke) then why not just

A. Ignore them
B. Just tell them you do find it quite insulting and explain it's your choice

C. Live with it - some people value their health.

I have been a smoker for 16 years - and I can tell you why non-smokers are always moaning about smokers:

1) They have nothing better to do.
2) They want us to conform to THEIR lifestyle.
3) They think they are always right, yet they don't try to stop drinking...

While I do agree that smokers should not smoke around non-smokers (it's just an arguement waiting to happen) I do believe one thing:

SMOKERS SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO SMOKE IN PUBLIC IF IT IS A PUBLIC BUILDING DESIGNATED AS SMOKING ALLOWED.

As to whether or not smoking is good/bad? Yes - smoking is a bad habit, and we smokers all know we should quit - and we probably will, when someone comes up with a substitute that allows us to have the same relief from tension, stress, and pressure. And those quit smoking patches just don't cut it, because some people have that oral cigarette fixation, which is not unexpected after years of smoking.

To all those smokers out there being a pain inna behind:

KNOCK IT OFF - you're giving the rest of us a harder time of it than we need (and smoking more because of it!).

Simply because most of us were previous heavy Smokers and for some reason now have an acute sense of smell regarding clothing which has been exposed to cigarette smoke.

Personally I do not moan, because I am aware how much TAX smokers are paying and incidentally I do not believe they should be barred from public houses and the like. I do still believe we all live in a free country.

You comment, 'Get a life' . Sincerely, the choice is yours but please do not waste your 'life'. Give up the smoking habit and think of all the money you will be saving. Give it a try. Good Luck

Smokers are used to the smoke, and most non-smokers aren't if you smoke you can't feel the smoke but some people who stay away from smoke(like me) feel a heavy pressure just breathing in some smoke, and it stinks.. kills you.. get cancer just from someone smoking beside you, smokers can **** off. I can't believe how all the smokers here just think they are cool and that all the non smokers are boring or sad.. after reading all the answers to this question..man people need to see a councelor or something after smoking that much. How the hell is it cool to smoke.. Man you're weird.. Smokers are just weak because they give into peer pressure.. yes peer pressure the thing they talk to kids about.. Stress is nothing to do with it, It's just an excuse.

I take it you are a smoker then. Disappointing. I don't smoke, and it doesn't bother me when others choose to.

However it does bother me when a person cannot sit through an entire meal without leaving to go and have a cigarette break as that's just plain rude. It bothers me when smokers smoke around children.

Yes, you have a right to smoke, but what about my right not to smoke.... ?

Now cigars on the other hand don't offend me, which is strange, I actually love that deep burnt chocolatey smell. Do you smoke cigars Zulu9?

They complain because they feel that they are being forced to do something they choose not to do. However, as a smoker myself I empathise with other smokers as to being able to puff away if we like. Truth is it's the weather thats to blame because it is the wind that blows smoke in peoples faces (unless you're a really rude smoker who purposely seeks out non-smokers to blow smoke in their faces directly). But without the weather we wouldn't have this beautiful planet so really its a catch 22, lose/lose situation for all concerned. I (as a smoker) didn't like it when working in bars and people who sat/stood at the bar were smoking and the smoke drifts into your face. Or emptying ashtrays or the smoke going up my nose/in my eyes when I have one hanging out of my mouth. I also don't like the amount of chemicals put in cigarettes because truth be told it cannot be good for you and we are basically enslaved to an inanimate object. BUT! Personally speaking, even with all the above I like smoking, I choose and want to smoke and you can't deny that in a certain light it looks cool (Slash from Guns and Roses certainly fits this bill). After all isn't that why we started??? I know I didn't start by looking for a slow way to kill myself by a self administered, systematic, poisoning of my own body (probably one of the longest methods of suicide available), did you?????? Anyway, the most important thing to realise is that there are very valid reasons and arguements for both sides and we should just agree to disagree because a common ground can never be found between the two. Hey! I know! Lets stop all this bickering about nothing and concern ourselves with third world poverty or the exctintion of the panda or something positive that can make a change to the world in which we live. I'd rather suck on a *** (no pun intended) than an exhaust pipe. Thanx for listening.

Because smokers are so inconsiderate blowing smoke in other peoples faces. Leaving their clothes smelling of smoke and also ash all over the place. Also in bars etc they stick their cigarette out away from them not caring when they burn holes in other peoples clothing. I will be glad when the smoking ban comes in. The other thing is when someone lights a cigarette in a pub or club then they will put it in the ash tray leaving the smoke choking people with the smell. Also if you have been out in a pub etc where smokers are you come home stinking of their smoke it is on your clothes and in your hair.
Is that enough reasons or do you want more?

And in reply to one of the other people on this posting I am not an ex smoker.

I stopped smoking nearly 3 years ago after being a heavy smoker, i feel sorry for all the smokers because of the smoking ban (im in Scotland) as i would have hated it. But i also have to say, now that i can actually smell cigarette smoke, i actually feel embarrased as to what i must have put my non-smoking friends through, by smoking in their houses and cars. And to the 2 non-smoking boyfriends i had in my life, all i can say is...IM SORRY...i must have stunk.

No...if someone is smoking in a non smokers face and they don't like it then they should have a right to say so...it's just like smokers...they complain about non smokers who complain...but if they would only stop smoking then we wouldn't have this debate...and smokers don't have an argument...sure they may say non smokers annoy them by arguing bt they are passing smoke on to non smokers which is a lot more damaging to the health than an argument!

i dont smoke, i have nothing against smokers, most people i speak to smoke, but what i do have a problem with is people blowing their smoke in your face, especially when you are with children, its just rude. i am glad that they have banned smoking in certain places like cafes/restaurants cause it is horrible trying to eat when people are constantly blowing smoke around you, and it is a family place, although i do think they took it a bit far banning it in pubs, after all with the amount of junkies and stupid drunks around, smoking seems like the least of their problems!!!
