Yes, mainly because a physician is not a marriage counselor. He has to respect the wishes of each individual, not a married couple. It's just like how a woman can choose to either keep or abort a baby inside her, and the man has no choice in the matter. Unfortunately, it's up to the couple to work things out.

Absolutely.

Next-of-kin have NO legal authority in this sort of issue if the patient
is recognized as competent and lucid.

If the guy is up and lucid, the wife has NO vote.

More entertaining question: When a guy is unconcious (and therefore
not competent), can next-of-kin authorize such an operation?

Well, sure they could authorize it, but no doctor would perform the
surgery as it is not life saving. That is elective surgery, and there
are very few circumstances where a doctor will perform elective
surgery if it isn't the patient him/her-self electing it. The obvious
exceptions are with minors.

It depends on the physician, but probably most physician's will. He will probably advise your husband about the infertility consequences of his choice. We are each independent adults in complete control of our own choices. Spouses do not own each other. It works both ways. I am sorry that this is probably not what you wanted to hear.
There is no legal obligation for the physician to tell him. In fact it's the physician's legal obligation to protect his privacy. However, physicians fully inform patients of the consequences of the treatments they provide. If the physician knows the wife is against it, I doubt he is going to deny the patient the care he seeks.

Medical procedures are confidential. If I was a man I would sue a physician for giving out my medical information.

Check your state's statutes since they govern Family Law.

If I were a man I wouldn't tell the doctor that I was married.

Yes. It's up to a man to do what he wants with his body whether it's getting his teeth removed to getting a vasectomy.

they only need one signature on the consent form and that's the guys. If he wants it there is very little the doctor can do against the will of the guy, the only way is if the man is mentally ill and the woman has power of attorney stating she makes all the decisions.

Yes, absolutely. Its the man's body and decision. Same argument for pro-choice, incidentally.

Yes its his choice to have a child as much as it is hers. If he doesnt want any but thinks she would tamper with the birthcontrol to accidently get pregant more power to him. They can be reversed if he changes his mind at a latter date.
