The bellybutton is a scar on the abdomen, caused when the umbilical cord is removed from a newborn baby. In humans, the scar can appear as a depression ("innie") or as a protrusion ("outie").The shape of the belly button comes from the attachment scar to the fascia (muscle), the looseness of skin, the fat under the skin, and the tension of what is behind the abdominal wall. Umbilical hernias can cause a change of belly button shape. Also, with the distension of the belly of pregnancy, the abdominal wall pushes out. This can change the shape of the belly button: for some more shallow and for others, "pop out." Bellybuttons are essentially scars, and not in any way defined by genetics.
Hope this helps ;-)

I can only assume it is the way you healed from your ambilical cord shrinking and falling off. Or it could be the same reason you have blue, green or brown eyes-- Your genes.

It depends on how the cord is tied after it is cut. Ask your doctor about it.
